SMOOTHIES!!!!!!
I've tried to be a "smoothie girl" before, but I just couldn't get it together! I decided to prep the smoothies (liquid and all) because yes, I am that lazy that if I have to hunt for all the ingredients and it's not all together ready to mix it’s not happening. It doesn’t help that I’m not a morning person, so running around my house gathering ingredients is the last thing on my agenda. For a while I’ve been eating Clif bars for the morning – which are okay occasionally, but not on a daily basis. I figured since I’m focusing on increasing my protein intake, in addition to running and working out more, protein smoothies were the way to go!!
This is a great go-to/starting point for making smoothies from scratch!! I found some recipes on Pinterest that I decided to try, and I tweaked some ingredients to my liking!
I measured the almond milk and water and froze it so I could vacuum pack the ingredients together. Here's what I used in my smoothies - I also added scoop of collagen powder (see article for benefits: https://www.idealshape.com/blog/biotin-collagen-supplements/) and ½ scoop vanilla Whey protein powder.
Berry Blast:
1 cup almond milk
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1 cup frozen strawberries
Kiwi Banana:
(this called for H2O instead of milk)
½ cup water
1 banana
2 kiwis
1 tsp honey
Strawberry Banana:
1 cup almond milk
1 cup frozen strawberries
½ banana
1 cup spinach (I didn't add this)
Birthday Cake:
1 cup almond milk
1 banana
¼ cup oats
Immunity Orange:
½ cup almond milk
¼ tsp vanilla extract
1 large orange
½ banana
1 cup mango pieces
Dragonfruit:
1 cup dragonfruit - cubed
1 cup mango pieces
2 bananas
1 cup almond milk
lime juice
I had extra kiwis, so I was going to freeze them for later - one in a bag, and when I tried to seal the bag, the kiwi got smashed - and I decided to make popsicles out of them! It's perfect because they're already naturally sweet!
I was not able to find any frozen mango pieces, so I bought a fresh one, but they are tricky to cut!! I suggest really looking for the frozen pieces and use the fresh fruit as a last resort!
However, I used to buy the Outshine mango popsicles because they were the "healthy" desserts (turns out they have a ton of sugars...). But while I was cutting the mango (and sneaking some pieces here and there) I decided to buy some more fresh mangos and freeze them like the kiwis to make my own natural popsicles!!
I love being able to control everything that I make and put in my body!!
I hope this is useful to you! Let me know of any other ideas or strategies for smoothies or popsicles!!
